Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to Blatchington Mill School. Our ethos is one of genuine inclusivity and diversity where we champion individuality, embrace difference and warmly welcome every member of our community into the Blatch family. Our priority is for every child to feel safe, secure and confident every day at school, enabling them to take a full and active role in every aspect of school life.
We are a truly comprehensive school and believe that all our children deserve a world class education that will inspire them to be the best they can be, enriches their lives and broadens their horizons. Therefore we have high expectations of everyone and our school culture is one where hard work and challenge are valued. We want to ensure that every child has a wide range of opportunities, finds what they love and experiences success, gains enabling qualifications and is looked after as part of a kind and compassionate community. Our pastoral care is exceptional and we take great care to ensure every student is known and looked after.
Academic excellence sits at the heart of all we do and we are ambitious and driven in our approach to teaching and learning. We have high aspirations for every student and academic rigour is central to all we do. Our curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced to ensure that all students have a secure grounding across all subjects for their first three years at Blatch. Our approach to students’ GCSE choices is designed to give students breadth across the curriculum, as well as opening doors for them so that they can compete nationally and internationally for university places and employment.
Beyond the classroom we have a wide and ever-expanding range of opportunities for students to take part in, from student leadership opportunities to school trips and fieldwork to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and numerous weekly clubs.
We are a welcoming and happy school where relationships between staff and students are excellent.
