Sussex Schools U14's Football Cup Win
Blatchington Mill’s Year 9 boys team have had an amazing season and celebrated a fantastic victory last week, winning the Sussex Schools County Cup in nail-biting fashion against a strong team from the Cavendish School. The final was an exciting and tense affair, played at Sussex HQ in Lancing, with lots of families and teachers watching in the stands to see if our team could hold their nerve to the end.
Cavendish started the brighter and took a deserved 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. This sparked the Blatch team into action and they finished the half well. After just six minutes of the second half Blatch scored with a great strike. Most of the second half was pretty even until the last 10 minutes, when the boys had to really dig deep to halt a very strong finish from Cavendish. With a draw at full-time the match moved straight to penalties. Blatch missed early on and it looked like Cavendish would go on to win, but then two misses from Cavendish meant an opportunity for Blatch. Under immense pressure Blatch’s player very calmly stepped up and slotted home his penalty, securing a 9-8 win for Blatch.
We are incredibly proud of our team’s performance across the whole season. They have performed consistently well and have the chance of winning the Brighton Schools’ League as well as securing a place in the Brighton & Hove District Schools’ Final which takes place next week.
