Royal Visit - HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

DofE 11 Blatchington Mill School2

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is a prestigious programme that recognises and celebrates the achievements of young individuals in various areas, such as volunteering, learning a new skill, taking part in a weekly physical activity and completing a two day expedition across the South Downs. As a result of this, some of our Year 10 and 11 DofE students were lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet with HRH, The Duke of Edinburgh.

As part of their physical section of the scheme, some of our students had chosen bouldering and having completed this section, they were given the opportunity to meet with HRH Prince Edward at Boulder Brighton. Our students were thrilled to have the chance to discuss their experiences with him and it was great to see them receiving recognition for their dedication and achievements in bouldering.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for our students and a great reward for all of the hard work they have put in. They also enjoyed being featured in radio interviews for Radio Sussex and other news articles as a result of the event.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme not only encourages our students to explore their interests and develop new skills, but it also promotes teamwork and resilience and has been a valuable addition to our curriculum.
