Former Student Writes and Performs John Lewis Song

Here at Blatchington Mill we were delighted to hear that former student, Celeste, has become the first artist ever to perform and write an original song for the John Lewis Christmas advert!

Celeste’s career has been going from strength to strength since she won the BBC Introducing Sound of 2020 award back in January. The prestigious award, voted for by music critics, is a prediction of which artists are likely to be the breakthrough stars of the year and previous winners include Adele, Sam Smith, Haim and Ellie Goulding.

Celeste, who studied at Blatch between 2005-2010, has also been mentioned in publications including Vogue, The Guardian, NME, GQ, and The Independent, and she even performed at this year’s Brit awards!

Now Celeste is topping off her incredible year with this wonderful achievement, soundtracking the John Lewis advert which aims to raise £4m for two charities - FareShare and Home-Start. The advert itself was inspired by the acts of kindness shown by the British public throughout 2020, and encourages viewers to ‘give a little love’ this Christmas.

We absolutely love the song and the message behind it, and we’re so incredibly proud of Celeste. Check out the advert and the beautiful song below if you haven’t seen it yet.
