French Students visit Blatchington Mill
On Wednesday 15th March 51 students and 5 teachers from Collège Eugene Delacroix in Draveil, France visited Blatchington Mill School. The students were on a 4 day trip to England and wanted to visit a typical English school.
During period 1 the French students were taken on a tour of the school by Year 11 GCSE French students. Many of the visitors did not speak English so our students used their language skills to describe the school and the classrooms they were seeing.
The French students were very impressed with the facilities at Blatch and the size of the school.
During period 2 the French students watched a typical lesson, sitting in on a Year 9 or Year 8 lesson.
After break Year 9 French students joined our visitors in the theatre where they did an activity to find out information about each other and each other’s schools but speaking in their own language. After a shaky start, it was wonderful to see all the students overcoming their shyness and communication difficulties and working together in such a collaborative and friendly way.
After a joint photo on the bleachers the French students departed. Before they left they said how much they had enjoyed the morning and that they would love to return next year!
All the students who took part were a real credit to the school and it was a fantastic experience for all involved.
